Shloka 9

राजवृत्त-रक्षा-प्रणिधि-षाड्गुण्योपदेशः

Royal Conduct, Protection, Intelligence, and Policy Measures

राजा होवाखिलं लोकं॑ समुदीर्ण समुत्सुकम्‌ । प्रसादयति धर्मेण प्रसाद्य च विराजते,राजा ही मर्यादाका उल्लंघन करनेवाले तथा अनुचित भोगोंमें आसक्त हो उनकी प्राप्तिके लिये उत्कण्ठित रहनेवाले सारे जगत्‌के लोगोंको धर्मानुकूल शासनद्वारा प्रसन्न रखता है और स्वयं भी प्रसन्नतापूर्वक रहकर अपने तेजसे प्रकाशित होता है

rājā hovākhilaṃ lokaṃ samudīrṇaṃ samutsukam | prasādayati dharmeṇa prasādya ca virājate |

Vasumanā said: The king, by governing in accordance with dharma, wins the goodwill of the entire world—even when people are stirred up and restless with eager desires. Having thus brought them to contentment, he himself abides in gladness and shines forth in royal splendor.
