Educational Q&A

Bhishma emphasizes that the purpose of nīti (ethical statecraft) is to provide practical measures that keep society aligned with the noble, righteous path; the treatise aims to prevent moral and civic deviation.

In the Shanti Parva, Bhishma instructs the king (Yudhishthira) on rajadharma and nīti; here he concludes that all relevant methods for keeping the world steady in righteous conduct have been explained within the nītiśāstra.
