राजधर्मप्रश्नः — Yudhiṣṭhira’s Inquiry into Rājadharma (Śānti-parva 56)
प्रेष्प्माणा विकल्पन्ते गुह्मां चाप्पनुयुञ्जते । अयाच्य॑ चैव याचन्ते भोज्यान्याहारयन्ति च,वे जब किसी कार्यके लिये भेजे जाते हैं तो उसकी सिद्धिमें संदेह उत्पन्न कर देते हैं। राजाकी गोपनीय त्रुटियोंको भी सबके सामने ला देते हैं। जो वस्तु नहीं माँगनी चाहिये उसे भी माँग बैठते हैं, तथा राजाके लिये रक्खे हुए भोज्य पदार्थोंको स्वयं खा लेते हैं
preṣyamāṇā vikalpante guhyaṃ cāpy anuyuñjate | ayācyaṃ caiva yācante bhojyāny āhārayanti ca ||
Bhīṣma said: “When such men are sent to accomplish a task, they throw its success into doubt by raising needless hesitations. They pry into what should remain secret and expose the king’s hidden faults. They ask for what ought not to be asked, and even consume the food set aside for the king.”
