ajñātaṁ kārtavīryeṇa haihayendreṇa dhīmatā | tannimittam abhūd yuddhaṁ jāmadagner mahātmanaḥ ||
This matter was unknown to the wise Haihaya sovereign Kārtavīrya. Yet, on account of that very cause, a fierce war arose between him and the great-souled Jāmadagnya (Paraśurāma).
वासुदेव उवाच
Even when a party is unaware of a precipitating event, actions and their consequences can still culminate in major conflict; therefore vigilance, clear communication, and restraint are vital to prevent escalation and to uphold dharma.
Vāsudeva states that Kārtavīrya, the wise Haihaya ruler, did not know the particular incident that became the cause, yet that very cause led to a severe battle between him and Jāmadagnya (Paraśurāma).
