Rāma–Jāmadagnya-janma-kāraṇa and Kṣatra-kṣaya
Paraśurāma’s origins and the depletion/restoration of kṣatriya lineages
यथा च जामदग्न्येन कोटिश: क्षत्रिया हता: । उद्भूता राजवंशेषु ये भूयो भारते हता:
yathā ca jāmadagnyena koṭiśaḥ kṣatriyā hatāḥ | udbhūtā rājavaṃśeṣu ye bhūyo bhārate hatāḥ ||
Just as, in former times, Jāmadagnya (Paraśurāma) slew kṣatriyas by the crores, so too those very kṣatriya lines, having arisen again within royal dynasties, have once more been cut down in the Bhārata war.
वायुदेव उवाच
The verse highlights the repetitive nature of adharma-driven conflict: even when royal lines regenerate, violence returns if the underlying ethical disorder persists. It serves as a warning that power without dharma leads to cyclical destruction.
Vāyudeva draws a historical parallel: Paraśurāma once annihilated kṣatriyas in vast numbers; later, kṣatriyas reappeared in royal dynasties, and now in the Bhārata (Kurukṣetra) war they have again been slain.
