Bhīṣma’s Śara-śayyā Stuti to Vāsudeva and Yogic Preparation for Dehotsarga
Body-Relinquishment

Bhishma said: Austerity is practiced daily for the pleasure of Bhagavān Vāsudeva alone, for he is enthroned in the hearts of all. He is the Self of all, the knower of all, the form of all, omniscient, and the begetter of all beings. And just as the araṇi fire-stick brings forth a blazing fire, so did the goddess Devakī, through Vasudeva, manifest that divine Lord upon the earth for the protection of the Brahmins, the Vedas, and the sacrificial order.

The Lord’s manifestation is presented as a dharmic necessity: when sacred knowledge and righteous practice (Brahmins, Vedas, yajñas) require safeguarding, the divine appears to protect and restore the moral-spiritual order.
Bhīṣma praises Kṛṣṇa’s advent, describing Devakī giving birth to the Lord through Vasudeva, using the image of araṇi producing fire to emphasize a purposeful, protective divine emergence on earth.
