Adhyāya 42 (Śānti Parva): Śrāddha, Aurdhvadaihika Rites, and Royal Welfare Measures

Vaiśampāyana said: He continued, as before, to serve and honor all the respected Kaurava elders—Dhṛtarāṣṭra, Gāndhārī, Vidura, and the other venerable members of the Kuru house—and he also treated the household servants with due regard and courteous hospitality.

Educational Q&A

Dharma is shown through consistent respect: honoring elders and treating dependents/servants with dignity. Ethical conduct is not limited to one’s peers; it extends downward in the social hierarchy as compassionate, courteous care.

The narrator states that the person in focus continues to serve and honor the respected Kuru elders—Dhṛtarāṣṭra, Gāndhārī, Vidura, and others—just as before, and also offers proper respect and hospitality to the household servants.
