भार्गवाच्च्यवनाच्चापि वेदानड्रोपबृंहितान् । प्रतिपेदे महाबाहुर्वसिष्ठाच्चरितव्रतः,“ब्रह्मचर्यव्रतका पालन करके महाबाहु भीष्मने भृगुवंशी च्यवन तथा महर्षि वसिष्ठसे वेदाड़ोंसहित वेदोंका अध्ययन किया है
vaiśampāyana uvāca |
bhārgavāc chyavanāc cāpi vedān aṅgopabṛṃhitān |
pratipede mahābāhur vasiṣṭhāc caritavrataḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana said: The mighty-armed Bhīṣma, steadfast in the discipline of his vow, duly mastered the Vedas together with their ancillary limbs, having studied them from the Bhārgava sage Cyavana and also from Vasiṣṭha.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse presents disciplined vow-keeping (especially brahmacarya and steadfast observance of vrata) as the moral basis for receiving and mastering sacred knowledge; learning is shown as inseparable from ethical self-control and proper discipleship.
Vaiśampāyana recounts Bhīṣma’s education: he learned and mastered the Vedas along with their ancillary disciplines by studying under renowned sages—Cyavana of the Bhṛgu line and Vasiṣṭha—highlighting his rigorous training and character.
