Prāyaścitta-vidhāna: Tapas, Dāna, Vrata, and Proportional Expiation (प्रायश्चित्तविधानम्)
अनादिष्ट तथैतानि पुण्यानि धरणीभृत:ः । सुवर्णप्राशनमपि रत्नादिसस्नानमेव च
anādiṣṭa tathaitāni puṇyāni dharaṇībhṛtaḥ | suvarṇaprāśanam api ratnādisasnānām eva ca |
Vyāsa said: Even when particular faults have not been explicitly specified, these acts are still regarded as meritorious for embodied beings. Drinking water sanctified by contact with gold, and bathing in water mixed with gems and the like—such rites are counted among purifying observances, intended to remove the taint of wrongdoing and restore one to a dharmic condition.
व्यास उवाच
When a fault is not covered by a specific rule, one may still rely on generally meritorious, purifying observances; ritual acts like gold-water sipping and gem-infused bathing are presented as means to cleanse moral and ritual impurity and re-align with dharma.
Vyāsa is enumerating forms of general purification/expiation, listing particular ritual practices that are considered inherently meritorious and effective for removing impurity.
