The brāhmaṇa said: “I have come here without agitation and have reported the matter as it truly stands. Since you have come to meet me, convey this message on my behalf.” Then that best of brāhmaṇas, after repeatedly instructing and settling the nāga-woman, returned once more to that very riverbank, proceeding along the sandy shore of the river.
ब्राह्मण उवाच
The passage highlights steadiness of mind (avyagra) and responsible speech: one should convey a message faithfully and act with composure and care, even amid morally complex situations involving others’ welfare.
A brāhmaṇa, calm and composed, asks someone to relay his words. After repeatedly reassuring/instructing the nāga-woman, he departs again toward the river’s sandy bank, continuing his course of action.
