Thus, in the Śrī Mahābhārata, within the Śānti Parva and its Mokṣa-dharma section, concludes the chapter on the birth/origin of Dvaipāyana (Vyāsa)—the 349th chapter.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
This line is a colophon marking the close of a chapter in the Mokṣa-dharma section; it signals a transition from narrative to reflection, framing Vyāsa (Dvaipāyana) as a foundational authority for dharma and liberation teachings that follow in Śānti Parva.
The text is concluding an adhyāya identified as the episode concerning Dvaipāyana’s origin/birth (dvaipāyanotpatti). It functions as an editorial/structural marker rather than a spoken narrative sentence.
