Sūrya–Nāga Dialogue on the Perfected Gleaner-Ascetic
svarūpiṇī tato buddhir upatasthē hariṁ prabhum | yogena caināṁ niryogaḥ svayaṁ niyuyuje tadā ||
Vaiśampāyana said: As soon as he contemplated, the embodied Intelligence (Buddhi) came and stood in attendance upon Hari, the Lord. Then Nārāyaṇa—who is beyond the control of others—of his own accord, at that very time, endowed that Buddhi with yogic power, fitting her for divine union and service.
The verse highlights that true spiritual capacity of the intellect (buddhi) is not merely self-generated; when the mind turns toward the Lord, divine grace can empower and ‘yoke’ the intellect with yoga, making it fit for higher realization and righteous discernment.
Upon contemplation, Buddhi appears in a personified, embodied form and attends Hari. Nārāyaṇa, described as independent and unconstrained, then personally endows that Buddhi with yogic power—effectively appointing and empowering her for divine purpose.
