धर्मद्वारबहुत्वविमर्शः — Reflection on the Many ‘Doors’ of Dharma (Śānti-parva 342)
छादयामि जगदू विश्व भूत्वा सूर्य इवांशुभि: । सर्वभूताधिवास श्च वासुदेवस्ततो हाहम्,(जो सबमें व्याप्त हो अथवा जो किसीका निवासस्थान हो, उसे “वासु” कहते हैं) मैं ही सूर्यरूप धारण करके अपनी किरणोंसे सम्पूर्ण जगत्को व्याप्त करता हूँ तथा मैं ही सम्पूर्ण प्राणियोंका वासस्थान हूँ; इसलिये मेरा नाम “वासुदेव” है
chādayāmi jagad viśvaṃ bhūtvā sūrya ivāṃśubhiḥ | sarvabhūtādhivāsaś ca vāsudevas tato hāham ||
Assuming the form of the sun, I pervade and cover the entire universe with my rays; and I am also the abiding dwelling-place of all beings. Therefore I am called Vāsudeva—He who pervades all and in whom all creatures find their residence.
अर्जुन उवाच
The verse teaches divine immanence: the Supreme pervades the cosmos like the sun’s rays and is the inner abode/support of all beings; the name “Vāsudeva” is justified by this all-pervading, all-containing nature.
In the Shānti Parva’s doctrinal discourse, a speaker explains the cosmic identity and significance of Vāsudeva, using the sun-and-rays analogy to describe how the divine permeates the universe and serves as the dwelling-place of all creatures.
