वक्तुमर्हसि शुश्रूषो: प्रजापतिपतेह॑रे: । श्रुत्वा भवेयं यत्‌ पूत: शरच्चन्द्र इवामल:,जनमेजयने कहा--भगवन्‌! शिष्योंसहित महर्षि व्यासने जिन नाना प्रकारके नामोंद्वारा इन मधुसूदनका स्तवन किया था, उनका निर्वचन (व्युत्पत्ति) मुझे बतानेकी कृपा करें। मैं प्रजापतियोंके पति भगवान्‌ श्रीहरिके नामोंकी व्याख्या सुनना चाहता हूँ; क्योंकि उन्हें सुनकर मैं शरच्चन्द्रके समान निर्मल एवं पवित्र हो जाऊँगा

Janamejaya uvāca | vaktum arhasi śuśrūṣoḥ prajāpati-pateḥ hareḥ | śrutvā bhaveyaṁ yat pūtaḥ śarac-candra ivāmalaḥ ||

Janamejaya said: “Please explain it to me, for I am eager to listen about Hari, the Lord of the Prajāpatis. By hearing (the meanings of) his names, I may become purified—spotless and clear like the autumn moon.”
