Vyāsa said: “O son of Kuntī, in this very matter a mantra is also recited in the Vedas. I shall declare to you that dharma which is known and established by Vedic authority.”
व्यास उवाच
That dharma should be understood and taught on the basis of Vedic authority (veda-pramāṇa); Vyāsa frames his instruction as grounded in a Vedic mantra and therefore not merely personal opinion.
Vyāsa addresses the son of Kuntī and signals a transition into a doctrinal explanation: he cites that the Vedas contain a relevant mantra and then promises to expound the Veda-sanctioned dharma connected to the topic under discussion.
