Systems of Knowledge and Vyāsa’s Nārāyaṇa-Origin
jitaṃ te puṇḍarīkākṣa namaste viśvabhāvana | namaste 'stu hṛṣīkeśa mahāpuruṣapūrvaja ||
Bhīṣma said: “Victory to You, O lotus-eyed One. Salutations to You, O Sustainer of the universe. Salutations indeed to You, O Hrishikesha—prime ancestor and source of all great beings.”
The verse teaches that recognizing the Supreme as the sustainer of the world and the controller of the senses naturally leads to humility and reverent devotion; such reverence is presented as an ethical alignment with dharma and cosmic order.
Bhishma voices (and reflects) a triumphant acclamation directed to Krishna, using a sequence of divine epithets to acknowledge Krishna’s supremacy and beneficent role as the source and supporter of the universe.
