एकान्तिधर्म-प्रश्नः (Inquiry into Ekāntin Dharma) / The Origin and Practice of Single-Pointed Nārāyaṇa-Centered Discipline

Bhishma said: Having worshipped through austerity the Lord Hari—Nārāyaṇa, the supreme Master—those sages, together with other seers, performed penance for a full thousand divine years. Pleased by that devotion and self-discipline, the Lord sent the goddess Sarasvatī to them; and by Nārāyaṇa’s command, for the welfare of all the worlds, she entered into those sages at that time—so that sacred insight and beneficent speech might arise for the good of beings.

Sustained tapas and sincere devotion to Nārāyaṇa draw divine grace; that grace manifests as Sarasvatī—right knowledge and beneficent speech—directed toward lokahita (the welfare of all worlds), not merely personal attainment.
A group of ṛṣis perform a thousand divine years of austerity worshipping Hari-Nārāyaṇa. Pleased, the Lord sends Sarasvatī, who—by his command—enters the sages so that inspired wisdom and speech may arise for the benefit of all beings.
