शिष्याणां वचन श्रुत्वा व्यासो वेदार्थतत्त्ववित् । पराशरात्मजो धीमान् परलोकार्थचिन्तक:
śiṣyāṇāṁ vacanaṁ śrutvā vyāso vedārtha-tattva-vit | parāśarātmajo dhīmān paralokārtha-cintakaḥ ||
Bhīṣma said: Hearing the words of his disciples, Vyāsa—wise, the knower of the true purport of the Vedas, the intelligent son of Parāśara, ever intent on what leads to the good of the next world—reflected upon their request with a view to spiritual welfare rather than mere worldly gain.

True guidance is grounded in Vedic insight and aims at paraloka-artha—lasting spiritual welfare—so a teacher like Vyasa responds to questions with concern for dharma and ultimate good, not merely immediate advantage.
Bhishma describes a moment where Vyasa listens to his disciples’ words; characterized as a knower of Vedic truth and a contemplator of the next-world good, Vyasa prepares to address them from a spiritually oriented perspective.
