धनेन कि यन्न ददाति नाश्रुते बलेन कि येन रिपुं न बाधते । श्रुतेन कि येन न धर्ममाचरेत्‌ किमात्मना यो न जितेन्द्रियो वशी

Transliteration

dhanena kiṁ yan na dadāti nāśrute balena kiṁ yena ripuṁ na bādhate | śrutena kiṁ yena na dharmam ācaret kim ātmanā yo na jitendriyo vaśī ||

Translation

Vyāsa said: What is the use of wealth if one does not give? What is the use of learning if one does not listen and heed? What is the use of strength if one does not restrain and subdue the enemy? What is the use of scriptural knowledge if one does not practice dharma? And what is the use of the self in one who has not conquered the senses and attained self-mastery?
