Vyāsa said: One who has truly absorbed the whole of what is heard (the teachings) and who actively performs auspicious duties gains its full fruit. Therefore this instruction—this vision of meaning, joined with practical benefit—is meant for the grateful and responsive person, for counsel given to such a one becomes effective and bears success.
व्यास उवाच
Learning becomes fruitful only when it is internalized and expressed through wholesome action; instruction is most effective when given to a grateful, receptive person who recognizes its value and applies it.
Vyāsa is explaining the proper recipient and purpose of ethical-spiritual instruction: the one who has mastered what is heard (scriptural teaching) and is engaged in auspicious conduct; such a person makes the teaching succeed in practice.
