Saṃhāra-krama (The Sequence of Cosmic Dissolution) — Yājñavalkya’s Discourse

yas tu tiṣṭhati kaunteya dhāraṇāsu yathāvidhi | maraṇaṁ janma duḥkhaṁ ca sukhaṁ ca sa vimucyati ||

Bhishma said: “O son of Kunti, the one who, in the prescribed manner, remains steady in the yogic practices of concentration (dhāraṇā) becomes freed from the binding cycle of birth and death, and from the compulsions of sorrow and pleasure.”

Educational Q&A

Steadiness in properly prescribed dhāraṇā (yogic concentration) leads to liberation: one is freed from the binding power of birth and death and from being driven by pleasure and pain.

In the Shanti Parva’s instruction section, Bhishma continues advising Yudhishthira (addressed as Kaunteya) on spiritual discipline; here he highlights yogic concentration practiced according to rule as a means to transcend worldly dualities.
