Parāśara says: Death is declared to be present within birth, and birth itself rests upon death. The one who is ignorant of the dharmas that lead to liberation remains bound and wanders in the world like a wheel, revolving through the cycle of birth and death. But one who proceeds on the path of understanding attains well-being both here and hereafter.
पराशर उवाच
Ignorance of mokṣa-dharma keeps a person bound to saṃsāra, endlessly revolving through birth and death; discernment (buddhi) and the liberating path bring well-being in this life and beyond.
In Śānti Parva’s instruction on liberation, the sage Parāśara teaches that birth and death are mutually implicated and that only knowledge of mokṣa-oriented dharma frees one from cyclical wandering.
