जात्या च कर्मणा चैव दुष्ट कर्म न सेवते । जात्या दुष्टश्न यः पापं न करोति स पूरुष:,जो जाति और कर्म--इन दोनोंसे श्रेष्ठ तथा पापकर्मका सेवन नहीं करता एवं जातिसे दूषित होकर भी जो पापकर्म नहीं करता है, वही पुरुष कहलाने योग्य है
jātyā ca karmaṇā caiva duṣṭa-karma na sevate | jātyā duṣṭaś ca yo pāpaṁ na karoti sa pūruṣaḥ ||
Parāśara said: “He who, by both birth and conduct, does not resort to wicked deeds is truly worthy. Even if one is considered tainted by birth, the person who still does not commit sin—he alone deserves to be called a true man.”
पराशर उवाच
Moral worth is determined by refraining from sinful, wicked actions; even if society deems someone ‘tainted’ by birth, ethical conduct makes one truly worthy.
In Śānti Parva’s dharma-discourse, the sage Parāśara states a criterion for genuine human excellence: not birth-status but the refusal to engage in pāpa (sin) and duṣṭa-karma (wicked deeds).
