sahasraṃ tu sahasrāṇāṃ yasyāsan śaśabindavaḥ | sṛñjaya! śṛṇumaḥ citrarathasya putraḥ śaśabinduḥ api mṛtyoḥ ātmānaṃ rakṣituṃ na śaśāka | tasya mahāmanasaḥ nṛpasya eka-lakṣaṃ rājñyaḥ āsan, tābhyaś ca rājñaḥ daśa-lakṣaṃ putrā utpannāḥ |
Vāyu said: “O Sṛñjaya, we hear that even Śaśabindu, the son of Citraratha, could not protect himself from Death. That great-souled king had a hundred thousand queens, and from their wombs ten million sons were born to him—yet even such vast power and progeny did not become a refuge against mortality.”

Even extraordinary worldly prosperity—vast lineage, power, and royal enjoyment—cannot ward off death; therefore one should cultivate dharma and inner detachment rather than relying on external supports.
Vāyudeva addresses Sṛñjaya and cites the example of King Śaśabindu, famed for immense progeny, to illustrate that mortality overcomes all beings regardless of their greatness.
