Haṃsa–Sādhya Saṃvāda: Satya, Dama, Kṣamā and the Discipline of Speech
एष तावत् समासेन तव संकीर्तितो मया । मोक्षार्थो विस्तरेणाथ भूयो वक्ष्यामि तच्छुणु
eṣa tāvat samāsena tava saṅkīrtito mayā | mokṣārtho vistareṇātha bhūyo vakṣyāmi tac chṛṇu ||
Bhishma said: “So far, I have stated to you in brief the aim that leads to liberation. Now, listen—hereafter I shall explain that same path again, but in fuller detail.”
भीष्म उवाच
Bhishma signals a structured instruction: he has already summarized the means and goal of liberation (moksha) and will now restate and expand it, emphasizing careful listening and deeper clarification.
In the Shanti Parva’s instructional setting, Bhishma continues his counsel, transitioning from a brief outline of the moksha-oriented teaching to a more detailed exposition for his listener.
