Adhyāya 284: Tapas as a Corrective to Household Attachment
Parāśara’s Instruction
नम: स्तुताय स्तुत्याय स्तूयमानाय वै नमः । सर्वाय सर्वभक्षाय सर्वभूतान्तरात्मने,जिनकी स्तुति हो चुकी है, वे आप हैं। जो स्तुतिके योग्य हैं, वे भी आप हैं और जिनकी स्तुति हो रही है, वे भी आप ही हैं। आप सर्वस्वरूप, सर्वभक्षी और सम्पूर्ण भूतोंके अन्तरात्मा हैं। आपको बारंबार नमस्कार है
namaḥ stutāya stutyāya stūyamānāya vai namaḥ | sarvāya sarvabhakṣāya sarvabhūtāntarātmane ||
Homage to you—the One already praised; homage to you—the One truly worthy of praise; homage to you—the One being praised even now. You are the All, the devourer of all, and the inner Self within every being. To you I bow again and again.
भीष्म उवाच
True reverence recognizes the Divine as (1) the object of all praise, (2) the very standard of what is worthy of praise, and (3) the living presence being praised in the moment. Ethically, it encourages humility and universal regard by seeing the same inner Self in all beings.
In Śānti Parva, Bhīṣma—teaching Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma—utters a devotional salutation (stuti) to the Supreme, describing the deity’s all-pervading nature and indwelling presence as the antarātman of all creatures.
