Adhyāya 284: Tapas as a Corrective to Household Attachment

Parāśara’s Instruction

जानुभ्यामवनीं गत्वा दक्षो लब्ध्या भवाद्‌ वरम्‌ | नाम्नामष्टसहस्रेण स्तुतवान्‌ वृषभध्वजम्‌,महादेवजीसे वर पाकर दक्षने धरतीपर घुटने टेककर उन्हें प्रणाम किया और एक हजार आठ नामोंद्वारा उन भगवान्‌ वृषभध्वजका स्तवन किया

jānubhyām avanīṃ gatvā dakṣo labdhyā bhavād varam | nāmnām aṣṭasahasreṇa stutavān vṛṣabhadhvajam ||

Having obtained a boon from Mahādeva, Dakṣa went down upon his knees to the earth, bowed in reverence, and praised the Bull-bannered Lord (Vṛṣabhadhvaja) with eight thousand sacred names.
