Adhyāya 283: Varṇa-vṛtti, Nyāya-ārjana, and the Decline-and-Restoration of Dharma (वर्णवृत्तिः न्यायार्जनं च)
देवदानवगन्धर्वा: पिशाचोरगराक्षसा: । हाहाहूहृश्व गन्धर्वो तुम्बुरुनरिदस्तथा
devadānavagandharvāḥ piśācoragarākṣasāḥ | hāhāhūhṛśva gandharvo tumburunāridastathā ||
Vaiśampāyana said: Devas, Dānavas, Gandharvas, Piśācas, Nāgas, and Rākṣasas were present; likewise the Gandharvas Hāhāhū and Hṛśva, and also Tumburu and Nārida—thus a great assembly of diverse beings is being enumerated, underscoring the cosmic scope of the occasion and the moral weight of what is to be heard or witnessed.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
