Livelihood, Virtuous Association, and Ethics of Giving
tathāstu—ity evaṃ bhavatu. parāṃ ca prītim agamad utsmayan caiva pinākadhṛk | avāpa ca tadā bhāgaṃ yathoktaṃ brahmaṇā bhavaḥ ||
Bhishma said: When Brahmā had spoken thus and had also arranged that a share in the sacrifice be allotted, Mahādeva—of immeasurable splendor—replied to Brahmā, “So be it; let it be exactly so.” Then the bearer of the Pināka bow, smiling, was filled with deep satisfaction, and Bhava (Śiva) received at that time the sacrificial portion exactly as Brahmā had declared.

When rightful recognition and the proper allotment of shares are established according to dharma, conflict subsides and harmony is restored. Even powerful beings accept order when it is justly arranged.
After Brahmā declares and arranges that Śiva should receive a portion in the sacrifice, Śiva assents with “tathāstu,” smiles in satisfaction, and receives the sacrificial share exactly as Brahmā prescribed.
