prasthitā devatā dṛṣṭvā śailarājasutā tadā | uvāca vacanaṃ sādhvī devaṃ paśupatiṃ patim ||
Seeing the gods setting forth, the virtuous daughter of the king of mountains (Umā) then addressed her lord—Paśupati, the great God—asking him about what was to occur.
The verse models dharmic inquiry: when significant events unfold, a virtuous person seeks clarification from a worthy authority with reverence. Knowledge is approached through humility, attentiveness, and devotion.
The gods are seen departing on some mission. Umā (Pārvatī), described as sādhvī, notices this and speaks to her husband Śiva (Paśupati), initiating a dialogue about the reason and implications of the gods’ departure.
