Bhishma said: In the time of battle, the great-souled Indra, seated upon his chariot and receiving the hymns of the seers, appeared in a form so radiant and awe-inspiring that it was exceedingly difficult even to look toward him.

The verse highlights the overwhelming nature of divine splendor in a dharmic context: when a righteous cosmic power is affirmed by the praise of seers, its presence becomes morally and spiritually awe-inducing—so intense that ordinary perception cannot easily endure it.
Bhishma describes Indra during battle: seated on his chariot, being hymned by rishis, Indra appears so brilliantly radiant that looking at him is extremely difficult.
