Inquiry into Śreyas, Dharma, and Karma

turīyāṁśena tasyemaṁ viddhi keśavam acyutam | turīyārthena lokāṁs trīn bhāvayaty eva buddhimān ||

Bhishma said: Know this Keshava, the unfailing Achyuta, to be endowed with a fourth part of that Supreme Narayana. With that very quarter-portion, the wise Lord sustains and brings into being the three worlds—yet never falls away from His own inherent majesty.

Educational Q&A

The verse affirms Krishna’s supreme divinity: he is identified as an aspect of Narayana, possessing a ‘quarter-portion’ through which the entire threefold cosmos is manifested and sustained, while his essential glory remains unchanged and undiminished.

In Shanti Parva’s instruction to Yudhishthira, Bhishma continues theological teaching, praising Krishna as Achyuta and explaining his cosmic status—linking him to Narayana and describing his power to uphold the three worlds.
