श्रेयो-धर्मकर्मविचारः
Inquiry into Śreyas, Dharma, and Karma
प्रजाविसर्ग तु सशेषकाले स्थानानि स्वान्येव सरन्ति जीवा: । निःशेषतस्तत्पदं यान्ति चान्ते सर्वे देवा ये सदृशा मनुष्या:,“प्रलयकालमें जो जीव देवभावको प्राप्त थे, वे यदि अपने सम्पूर्ण कर्मफलोंका उपभोग समाप्त करनेसे पहले ही लयको प्राप्त हो जाते हैं तो कल्पान्तरमें पुनः प्रजाकी सृष्टि होनेपर वे शेष फलका उपभोग करनेके लिये उन्हीं स्थानोंको प्राप्त होते हैं, जो उन्हें पूर्वकल्पमें प्राप्त थे; किंतु जो कल्पान्तमें उस योनिसम्बन्धी कर्मफल-भोगको पूर्ण कर चुके हैं, वे स्वर्गलोकका नाश हो जानेपर दूसरे कल्पमें उनके जैसे कर्म हैं, उसीके सदृश अन्य प्राणियोंकी भाँति मनुष्य-योनिको ही प्राप्त होते हैं
prajāvisarga tu saśeṣakāle sthānāni svānyeva saranti jīvāḥ | niḥśeṣatastatpadaṃ yānti cānte sarve devā ye sadṛśā manuṣyāḥ ||
Bhīṣma explains that when creation is renewed, those beings whose karmic results were still unfinished at the moment of dissolution naturally return to the very same stations and realms they had previously attained, to experience the remaining fruits. But those who, by the end of the aeon, have fully exhausted the results that sustained their divine status—when that heavenly world itself perishes—enter the next cycle not as gods again, but like other beings of comparable deeds, taking birth in the human condition.
भीष्म उवाच
