बाहों चाभ्यन्तरे चैव कर्मणोर्मनसि स्थित: । निर्मलीकुरुते बुद्धा सोअमुत्रानन्त्यमश्लुते,“जो बाह्य (यज्ञ आदि) और आशभ्यन्तर (शम, दम आदि) कर्मोमें प्रवृत्त होकर मनके विषयमें स्थिरता प्राप्त करके अर्थात् मनको स्थिर करके बुद्धिके द्वारा उसे निर्मल बनाता है, वह परलोकमें अक्षय सुख (मोक्ष) को प्राप्त कर लेता है
bāhye cābhyantare caiva karmaṇor manasi sthitaḥ | nirmalīkurute buddhyā so 'mutrānantyam aśnute ||
Bhishma said: One who engages in both outward disciplines (such as sacrificial and ritual duties) and inward disciplines (such as self-restraint and sense-control), and who establishes steadiness in the mind—purifying it through discerning intelligence—attains in the hereafter an imperishable, limitless good: liberation.
भीष्म उवाच
True spiritual attainment comes from combining outward righteous duties with inward disciplines, then stabilizing and purifying the mind through buddhi (discriminative intelligence); this leads to imperishable liberation.
In the Śānti Parva’s instruction on dharma, Bhīṣma continues advising on the path to the highest good, emphasizing inner purification and mental steadiness alongside prescribed external practices.
