Bhishma said: “O greatly wise and sinless king, it is indeed fitting that you possess a keen and discerning insight. For by proper means you continually seek out all the aims of life—dharma and the rest—therefore a refined capacity to test and examine what you have heard rightly belongs in you.”
भीष्म उवाच
Bhishma affirms that a ruler who sincerely pursues the aims of life through proper means should cultivate—and is worthy of—keen discernment: the ability to examine, test, and judge teachings before adopting them.
In the Shanti Parva’s instructional setting, Bhishma addresses Yudhishthira, praising his blameless intent and steady pursuit of dharma and other goals, and thereby justifying why deeper, more discriminating counsel is appropriate for him.
