Yudhiṣṭhira’s Remorse and Vyāsa’s Teaching on Impermanence (Śoka-nivāraṇa)
saṃyogā viprayogāntā maraṇāntaṃ hi jīvitam |
Vyāsa declares a universal law of impermanence: every coming-together ends in separation, and life itself inevitably ends in death. The verse urges sober discernment—do not cling to possessions, relationships, or worldly rise, for all compounded states culminate in dissolution; therefore one should ground one’s conduct in dharma rather than in transient gains.
