Kuṇḍadhāra-Upākhyāna: Dharma’s Superiority over Wealth and Desire

श्रद्धापूतं वदान्यस्य हतमश्रद्धयेतरत् । “किंतु एक बार यज्ञमें प्रजापतिने उनके इस बर्तावको देखकर कहा--'देवताओ! तुमने यह अनुचित किया है। वास्तवमें उदारका अन्न उसकी श्रद्धाके कारण पवित्र होता है और कंजूसका अश्रद्धाके कारण अपवित्र एवं नष्टप्राय समझा जाता है-
Translation
The food of the generous is purified by śraddhā, while that of the other is ruined by lack of faith. But once, at a yajña, Prajāpati, seeing their conduct, said: “O gods, you have acted improperly. In truth, the generous man’s food is made pure by his faith, and the miser’s food—through faithlessness—should be deemed impure and as good as destroyed.”
