Therefore the wise understand that wealth never remains permanently with any one person. Hence a person endowed with faith should give that wealth in charity and also employ it in sacrifice—using transient possessions for enduring merit and the welfare of others.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Wealth is unstable and does not stay permanently with any individual; therefore one should, with faith, convert transient riches into lasting dharmic value through charity (dāna) and sacrificial/ritual offering (yajña).
Vaiśampāyana continues a didactic passage in Śānti Parva, presenting a moral reflection: recognizing the impermanence of possessions, people are urged to practice generosity and sacrificial giving as a proper social and spiritual use of wealth.
