Shloka 133

महाभूत–इन्द्रिय–मनस्–बुद्धि–अन्तरात्मा विवेकः | Discrimination of Elements, Senses, Mind, Intellect, and Inner Self

वर्तयन्ति यथान्यायं वैखानसगतिं श्रिता: । वानप्रस्थ-धर्मका आश्रय लेकर कोई कन्द-मूलसे और कोई-कोई दृढ़ व्रतका पालन करते हुए फूलोंसे ही धर्मानुकूल जीविका चलाते हैं

vartayanti yathānyāyaṃ vaikhānasagatiṃ śritāḥ | vānaprastha-dharmakāḥ āśritya kecit kandamūlaiḥ, kecid dṛḍhavrataparāḥ, puṣpaiḥ eva dharmānukūlāṃ jīvikāṃ vartayanti |

Vyāsa said: Those who have taken refuge in the Vaikhānasa path live in a manner consistent with what is right. As followers of the forest-dweller’s discipline (vānaprastha-dharma), some sustain themselves on roots and tubers, while others, steadfast in rigorous vows, maintain a livelihood that accords with dharma by subsisting only on flowers.
