Educational Q&A

A householder, especially a brāhmaṇa, should act according to svadharma and remain unwaveringly truthful, keeping to the traditional set of six prescribed duties rather than drifting into conduct that contradicts his role.

Vyāsa is instructing on proper conduct within the Śānti Parva’s dharma discourse, emphasizing the ethical foundation (truthfulness) and the disciplined scope of obligations for the householder stage of life.
