Educational Q&A

Bhishma teaches that firm, total renunciation (especially of attachment and possessiveness) is the sure path for abandoning suffering; acting contrary to this discipline leads to downfall (durgati).

In the Shanti Parva’s instruction on dharma and liberation, Bhishma continues advising Yudhishthira, emphasizing renunciation as a decisive spiritual method and warning of negative consequences for those who reject it.
