Śakra–Namuci-saṃvāda: Śoka-nivāraṇa and Daiva-vicāra

Indra and Namuci on grief, composure, and inevitability

शब्द: स्पर्श च रूप॑ं च रसो गन्धश्न मूर्तय: । एते ह्यामरणात्‌ पञज्च षड्गुणा ज्ञानसिद्धये,शब्द, स्पर्श, रूप, रस, गन्ध तथा मूर्त द्रव्य--ये छः गुण जीवकी मृत्युके पहलेतक इन्द्रियजन्य ज्ञानके साधक होते हैं (इनके साथ इन्द्रियोंका संयोग होनेपर ही भिन्न-भिन्न विषयोंका ज्ञान होता है)

śabdaḥ sparśaṃ ca rūpaṃ ca raso gandhaś ca mūrtayaḥ | ete hy ā-maraṇāt pañca ṣaḍ-guṇā jñāna-siddhaye ||

Bhīṣma said: “Sound, touch, form, taste, smell, and material embodiment—these are the qualities that serve as the means by which sensory knowledge is accomplished, operating for a living being up to the moment of death. Only when the senses come into contact with these qualities does distinct cognition of the various objects arise.”
