अध्याय २०८ — इन्द्रियनिग्रहः, सत्याहिंसात्मकवाक्, कर्मफलविवेकः

Restraint of the Senses, Non-harming Truthful Speech, and Discernment of Karmic Consequence

भीष्म उवाच श्रूयतां भरतश्रेष्ठ यन्मां त्वं परिपृच्छसि । प्रजानां पतयो ये5स्मिन्‌ दिक्षु ये चर्षय: स्मृता:,भीष्मजीने कहा--भरतश्रेष्ठ) इस जगतमें जो प्रजापति रहे हैं तथा सम्पूर्ण दिशाओंमें जिन-जिन ऋषियोंकी स्थिति मानी गयी है, उन सबको जिनके विषयमें तुम मुझसे पूछते हो; मैं बताता हूँ, सुनो

bhīṣma uvāca

śrūyatāṁ bharataśreṣṭha yan māṁ tvaṁ paripṛcchasi |

prajānāṁ patayo ye 'smin dikṣu ye cārṣayaḥ smṛtāḥ ||

Bhishma said: “Listen, O best of the Bharatas, to what you ask of me. I shall describe the Prajapatis—the lords and progenitors of beings—who have existed in this world, and also the sages who are traditionally held to preside in the various directions.”
