Varāha-avatāra: Viṣṇu’s subterranean intervention and the cosmic nāda (Śānti-parva 202)

तथा मनुष्य: परिमुच्य काय- मदृश्यमन्यद्‌ विशते शरीरम्‌ । विसृज्य भूतेषु महत्सु देहं तदाश्रयं चैव बिभर्ति रूपम्‌,इसी तरह मनुष्य अपने दृश्य शरीरका त्याग करके जब दूसरे अदृश्य शरीरमें प्रवेश करता है, तब पहलेके स्थूल शरीरको पञड्च महाभूतोंमें मिलनेके लिये छोड़कर दूसरे शरीरका आश्रय ले उसीको अपना स्वरूप मानकर धारण करता है

tathā manuṣyaḥ parimucya kāyam adṛśyam anyad viśate śarīram | visṛjya bhūteṣu mahatsu dehaṃ tadāśrayaṃ caiva bibharti rūpam ||

So too, a human being, casting off the visible body, enters another, invisible body. Leaving the former gross frame to merge back into the great elements, one then takes support in the other body and bears that as one’s very form.
