Bhishma said: “The yogins practice in such a way that meditation is properly and fully carried out. Those great seers—satiated with true knowledge and with minds intent upon nirvāṇa—adopt precisely that method by which meditation can be well accomplished, fixing their attention on liberation as their very nature.”

Meditation should be undertaken with correct method and discipline; the wise seers, fulfilled by liberating knowledge, choose whatever practical means best enables steady dhyāna, because their aim is nirvāṇa (mokṣa).
In Śānti Parva, Bhīṣma is instructing Yudhiṣṭhira on higher dharma and the path to liberation; here he describes how accomplished yogins and great seers orient their practice toward effective meditation and mokṣa.
