Bhīṣma said: “Thus, O Bhārata, the entire course and functioning of the intellect has been explained to you. Now, by one who is truly wise, all the senses must be conquered (brought under mastery).”

After explaining how the intellect operates (buddhi-gati), Bhīṣma emphasizes that wisdom must culminate in practical mastery over the senses. Ethical steadiness and right conduct depend on restraining sense-impulses rather than being driven by them.
In Śānti Parva, Bhīṣma continues instructing Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma and inner discipline. Here he closes a section on the workings of intellect and transitions to the next practical requirement for a dharmic life: conquering the senses.
