सर्वोपायैस्तु लोभस्य क्रोधस्य च विनिग्रह: । एतत् पवित्र ज्ञानानां तथा चैवात्मसंयम:
sarvopāyais tu lobhasya krodhasya ca vinigrahaḥ | etat pavitraṃ jñānānāṃ tathā caivātmasaṃyamaḥ ||
Bharadvāja said: By every possible means one should restrain greed and anger. This is the purifying discipline for those who seek true knowledge, and it is indeed self-mastery.
भरद्वाज उवाच
The verse teaches that greed (lobha) and anger (krodha) must be restrained by every available method; such restraint is itself a purifying practice and a hallmark of true self-mastery (ātmasaṃyama), especially for those pursuing wisdom (jñāna).
In the didactic setting of the Śānti Parva, Bharadvāja delivers moral instruction, emphasizing inner discipline as a foundation for peace and right conduct.
