Bharadvāja said: One should live without violence toward any being and conduct oneself in a spirit of friendship toward all. Abandoning possessive attachment and clinging to wife, son, and the like, one should, by the power of discernment, bring the senses under control and attain that state which is fearless and free from sorrow both in this world and the next.
भरद्वाज उवाच
Practice non-violence and universal friendliness, relinquish possessive attachment to family ties, and use discernment to master the senses; this leads to a fearless, grief-free condition in both present life and afterlife.
In the Shanti Parva’s instruction on dharma and liberation-oriented conduct, Bharadvaja articulates a discipline of ahiṁsā, maitrī, detachment, and sense-restraint as the practical path to inner security and freedom from sorrow.
