यस्त्वेतन्मन्यसे पार्थ न ज्यायो5स्ति धनादिति । तत्र ते वर्तयिष्यामि यथा नैतत् प्रधानतः,कुन्तीनन्दन! तुम जो यह मानते हो कि धनसे बढ़कर दूसरी कोई वस्तु नहीं है, उसके विषयमें मैं तुम्हें ऐसी बात बता रहा हूँ, जिससे तुम्हारी समझमें आ जायगा कि धन प्रधान नहीं है
yas tv etan manyase pārtha na jyāyo 'sti dhanād iti | tatra te vartayiṣyāmi yathā naitat pradhānataḥ ||
If you, O Pārtha, hold this view—that there is nothing superior to wealth—then I shall explain to you in such a way that you will understand: wealth is not, in truth, the highest principle.
युधिछिर उवाच
The verse challenges the belief that wealth is the highest good. Yudhiṣṭhira signals a dharmic reordering of values: material prosperity is useful but not ultimate; ethical principle and right discernment are higher.
