शृणोति कथितं जीव: कर्णाभ्यां न शृणोति तत् । महर्षे मनसि व्यग्रे तस्माज्जीवो निरर्थक:,महर्ष! जीव किसीकी कही हुई बातको पहले दोनों कानोंसे सुनता है; परंतु यदि मनमें व्यग्रता रही तो वह सुनकर भी नहीं सुनता; इसलिये मनके अतिरिक्त किसी जीवकी सत्ता मानना व्यर्थ है
Translation
O great rishi! A living being hears what is spoken through both ears; yet if the mind is disturbed, though it hears, it does not truly hear. Therefore, to posit any being’s existence apart from the mind is futile.
